A bit about the image and the title:
I originally left the vehicle in order to photograph a herd of elephants at the waterhole from a lower angle.
I scanned my surroundings to ensure that no elephants were approaching me from behind and then positioned myself to capture the herd.
Only a few minutes later, this elephant walked past me while I was lying on the ground.
He proceeded to walk past me without being even remotely bothered by my presence.
Only after he had a fair distance between himself and our vehicle did he pause, turn around, and look straight at me.
And this is where the title came from.
“Oog tot Oog” is Afrikaans for eye to eye.
It describes the few seconds of the massive elephant looking me directly in the eyes before proceeding with his walk towards the water.
